Populonia Archaeological Park
It extends between the slopes of the Piombino promontory and the Gulf of Baratti, where the Etruscan and Roman city of Populonia stood, known since ancient times for the intense metallurgical activity linked to the production of iron. It includes a significant part of the Etruscan and Roman inhabited area of Populonia, with its vast necropolis, the limestone quarries and the industrial districts where the hematite ore, coming from the deposits of the Elba Island, was worked in order to obtain ingots of iron.The park is divided into various visit areas that allow you to grasp the transformation of the landscape over the centuries.
